Our History

Following a tradition of “Town Bands” in Lufkin dating back to 1901, the modern day Lufkin Community Band was organized in 2001 by its current Music Director and Conductor David Smith and one of his most treasured mentors, the late Dr. Jack Hudgins, Founding President of Angelina College.  The LCB consists of professional and amateur musicians from throughout Lufkin and the Pineywoods area and is sponsored in part by Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.

The Lufkin Community Band endeavors to increase each member’s musical skills as we perform music for enjoyment and to preserve the rich history of concert wind-band music.  The LCB is a community band made up of musicians who believe that music is far too important to be left entirely in the hands of professionals.  We believe that this gift of music is to be shared and we hope we can share it with you.

The Lufkin Community Band serves as a community band in the greater Lufkin area and throughout the entire East Texas community, and performs at various community events during the year as well as formal concerts in Temple Theater in the Angelina Center for the Arts on the campus of Angelina College.  The LCB is open to all brass, woodwind, and percussion players and welcomes musicians of all skill levels.
